Suunto Core Alpha Stealth
Originally designed for the mountain, Suunto’s most popular ABC watch (Altimeter Barometer Compass) soon was adopted by many military personnel around the world. The Finnish watchmaker took note and first, the Core was upgraded with an “all black” version. Black case, black strap and a negative display.
Now, the Core is getting stealth. The display can be switched to a night vision goggle friendly red backlight. Also, it comes with a brand new textile strap, nato-ish style, quite more durable than the previous rubber bracelet.
Besides ABC, the Core has all the common functions you can find in any digital watch and more. Dual time, date, alarm, stopwatch, countdown timer, sunrise and sunset times and thermometer.
The Compass has bearing tracking. The Altimeter works as depth meter up to 10m, though the watch can be submerged up to 30m.
One of the most beloved features of the Core is the Storm Alarm because it really works. The storm alarm notifies you that a pressure drop of 4 hPa / 0.12 inHg or more has occurred during a 3 hour period. Then you’ll know you’re in for some bad weather.
Powered by a 12-month CR2032, the battery won’t last that long when making intensive use of the ABC functions, backlight or alarm but it can be easily replaced unscrewing the caseback with a coin. Check it out on Suunto.com.
