Oris Carl Brashear Calibre 401
Swiss watchmaker Oris is introducing its 3rd Carl Brashear inspired watch, honoring the famous US Navy Diver, the Oris Carl Brashear Calibre 401.
The most striking feature of this time piece is its brand new Swiss-made in-house Calibre 401 automatic movement with a massive 120 hour power reserve and small seconds at 6 sub-dial.
Longer power reserve movements used to be more inaccurate as a result of sporting a bigger spring but not in this case. Accuracy of Cal 401 is within COSC chronometer standards at -3/+5 seconds per day. Oris claims an anti-magnetic resistance well above the ISO 764 enhanced standard and 10-year recommended service interval instead of the usual five years in other mechanical watches.
The 40mm bronze case with a midnight blue dial is 100 meters water resistant. The case back is ornately embossed with the US Navy Diver’s logo and Brashear’s favorite quote; “It’s not a sin to get knocked down, it’s a sin to stay down”.
Also, the watch comes with a blue MN strap with bronze clasp provided by Erika’s Originals. MN – Marine Nationale straps originated with the French navy in the late 1960s. These are imilar to NATO straps with a slimmer, more stretchy nylon web. Check it out on Oris.ch.
